Dear Sirs:
As you may know, the “March 4 Education” campaign is a
group of parents, teens and children who are currently spending their spring
break on a 70-mile march from San Pablo (West Contra Costa Unified School
District) to Sacramento to present a petition to the Governor.
My children and I were honored to march with this group
for part of April 9th and 10th – from San Pablo to Vallejo. It really breaks
my heart to see little elementary school children and parents with babies
marching in the hot sun and begging for education. At a rally
in Vallejo, one 8-year-old made a speech to the crowd pleading for libraries
and books. He stated the obvious: every child has the right to a
free public education including clean bathrooms, counselors, librarians,
music and sports.
We plan to join this group again on Friday April 16th
when they march into Sacramento. I am encouraging all my friends to join
us and I’m busy registering voters wherever I go. What I want to know is
where will YOU be on Friday at 1 p.m.? Will you meet with us or will you
be on vacation?
I want to know what you personally are doing to help West
Contra Costa Unified School District and all the children in California’s
public school system. Proposition 98 guaranteed adequate funding for K-14
schools and the state of California is now in violation of that law.
Where are you while we March for Education?
Sincerely,
M.N. McMillion
Pinole, California
