March 4 Education is a grassroots organization of parents, students, teachers and community members who advocate for equity in educational funding, programs and school facilities.  We believe it is necessary for all students to have a quality education that is based on their needs, not in the economics of the community.

March 4 Education believes educational advocacy is vital in securing an appropriate education for all stuents.  We are committed to teach-ins, advocacy and peaceful nonconfrontational protest as a means of changing the structure of educational funding.  Our goal is to enhance the quality of life in our community and the larger society by producing a well-educated population.

We recognize that the local economy and the State of California's educational funding formula promote a separate and unequal education system for urban school districts.  On April 9 through April 16, 2004, students, teachers, parents and community members undertook a 70-mile march from San Pablo to Sacramento California. Our march focused attention on the inequities in the state funding formula, the lack of quality educational materials and the deplorable condition of the schools in West Contra Costa (WCCUSD), Vallejo, Oakland and many other urban school districts.  We believe every student has a basic right to a quality education, and it is this belief that prompted us to advocate, organize and march to Sacramento.
