The Honorable Arnold Schwarzenegger
State Capitol Building
Sacramento, CA 95814

Dear Governor Schwarzenegger,

We are members of the March 4 Education; a grassroots movement of parents, students teachers and community members concerned with the sad state of our educational system in California. We are in the middle of our 70 mile march from San Pablo to Sacramento.

We are writing to you from a church in Dixon, where we are staying tonight on the road. It is imperative that you meet with the people who you represent. On Friday, April 16th, from 1 to 3 pm, we have a hearing room at the State Capital that Senator Tom Torlakson has arranged for us to meet in.

We have been in contact with your office since March 25th. We are aware that you are on vacation and want you to know that we feel that education is an important enough issue that we have dedicated our vacation time to walk to Sacramento to meet with you. We ask you to make our children a priority and meet with us.

Sincerely,
March 4 Education Committee

The marchers attempted to speak with the Governor and learned that he was vacationing at the Four Seasons Hotel in Maui.

There is no vacation for education! After marching 70 long miles, over the course of 8 days, students, parents, taxpayers and citizens demanded a meeting with the Governor.

The Governor returned from his vacation and received students from a well-dressed school district the same day of our rally at the Capitol, but he would not meet with the marchers or any marcher representatives. Instead, he sent his Assistant for Constituent Affairs to meet with one of us, who then promised an answer to our three demands by 5 p.m. Wednesday, April 21, 2004. That day came and went with no phone call from Sacramento. On April 22, Assistant for Constituent Affairs Brian Jones called, but had nothing to offer.
