2 Teachers Removed from
Downer School!
Who Will Be Next?
Veteran teachers Elizabeth Jaeger
and Lina Praire have been removed from Downer and transferred to other
schools because they want to give our students a better education.
Downer Elementary School has had
three different principals in the last three years. The dedicated teaching
staff at Downer has tried to work with the new principals to improve Downer.
Each principal has refused to work with the teachers. Finally, a group
of five teachers wrote a letter to their fellow teachers outlining changes
that would help Downer.
The teachers also listed four educational
practices that they would no longer perform because the teachers felt that
the practices were not in the best interest of the students.
In the letter, the teachers asked
for a dialog to begin with administration about how to improve our schools.
School Board President Glen Price and Superintendent Cynthia LeBlanc have
publicly stated that the time has come to listen to teachers when deciding
how to best educate students.
Instead of listening to teachers,
WCCUSD is trying to silence the people who know the students best by removing
two expert teachers from Downer. Which teachers will the district
remove next?
Mr. Price and Ms. LeBlanc need to
follow through on their commitment.
Children, parents, teachers, community
members and administrators need to work together to bring our students
the best possible education.
