On July
13 and 14, the remaining 3 members of the Downer 5 - Eduardo Martinez,
Mike McDonald, and Thomas Prather - received letters signed by Lead Senior
Director of Human Resources (interim?) Mark Miller stating "effective July
12, 2006, you are being transferred from Downer Elementary School to a
site to be determined at a later date".
When Eduardo Martinez called Miller
to request a meeting and asked for the reason for his decision, Miller
stated that the decision was made by his predecessor, Brandon Krueger.
Lina Prairie and Elizabeth Jaeger
filed a complaint with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission last
spring on the basis of gender discrimination. The district may be attempting
to prove they are not guilty of discrimination by moving the men as well.
To support these teachers, please
call, fax, and/or email both Superintendent Bruce Harter and Mark Miller
and ask that these transfers be immediately rescinded.
