Courageous and strong
They march
They march for education
Along the back roads of California
Sacramento is their destination
From San Pablo to Pinole,
Vallejo, Fairfield,
Vacaville, Dixon, Davis
Past neighborhoods, shopping centers,
Fields and farms.
Sometimes in clusters,
Sometimes linking arms
To Sacramento with its dome of hope
They march as one
Black, yellow, white, brown
They wave flags, hold banners,
Chant, sing, laugh, cheer
Students, teachers, parents, friends
The people who care
March for education
March for rights
March for justice
March for freedom
March for tomorrow.
The dust blows
The sun burns
Their feet ache
They are thirsty
They are tired
But always there is hope
Hope for tomorrow.
They are blind
Like the justice
They hope to receive
Blind to color
Blind to race
Blind to religion
Blind to prejudice
The people who
March for education
March for tomorrow.
